Thank you for your support...

I'm sure that those of you who came here from That's Church know what an overwhelming response of support the Treehouse has received in the past few hours. I thank you all for speaking out and allowing yourselves to be heard.

I have personally spoken with Doug Shields and we have opened up the lines of communication to try to move forward in a positive way, meaning everyone will get to say what they need to say and all sides of the story will be heard. That's all I've ever wanted - to be positive, allow everyone to voice their opinions and to do what's best for EVERYONE - and I mean that. So I'm happy to say that it looks like that will happen. It may not have happened without all of you so again, THANK YOU!!!

Additionally, the Parks Conservancy has issued a statement I'd like to make you aware of. Please take a moment to check it out.

I promise to keep you updated on any new developments but now have to go write a paper on The Blue Foot Chicken - did you know a salmonella-free chicken exists that can be used for sushi? Ewwww is all I have to say about that.

I know I keep repeating myself, and the words seem so inadequate, but thank you again! Pittsburghers are the best!!!

  1. Hi Amy,

I'm a fervent fan of both your blog and That's Church. I'm an Ohio resident so I didn't think I'd count for much with the Pittsburgh powers that be, but I wanted to tell you you have my support and prayers.

  2. Hey Amy, I am sure you have thought of this, but have you contacted the Senator or Congressman in your district? It is an election year and usally the pols are looking for photo op projects to get involved in. Sorry to sound so cynical about the pols, but in doing the food drive for our union (Letter Carriers) I have seen and used this for our benefit. Try it.

  4. Amy,

I'm mainly a reader over at That's Church, but I have also been trying to keep up with your blog as well ever since I first heard Ginny mention you. Needless to say, I was outraged earlier today at what I heard was taking place in Pittsburgh - I'm not a resident, but I love that city just like you and Ginny do (I have family there, it's like a second home to me). I emailed Shields, along with countless others, I'm sure...and I'm really glad to hear things have become positive again. Hopefully things will continue that way!

  5. So glad something positive happened. My sister created an outdoor classroom and butterfly garden at the high school where she teaches in Florida. I've only seen the butterfly garden, and it's beautiful. I'm sure the classroom is too.

I can only imagine how awesome this outdoor learning space & tree house will be!!

Way to go Amy. You're doing good things. All these crazy things will just make you stronger and make this effort even better in the end!!! :-)

  6. Woo hoo Amy! I follow Ginny over at That's Church and I also try to keep up with your blog. So when I saw both of your posts yesterday, I immediately sent an email off to Doug Shields office. I am so hoping that Kate and Peters tree house becomes a reality.

  7. Supporting you and the dream of Kate and Peter is the easy part, Amy. We all believe in you and in them. You will never walk this journey alone, at least not this part of it. Lots of love!!!

  11. We're circulating That's Church posting and the one on the Parks website to our playgroups. We're trying to get a group to support you at the June 7th meeting. Please let us know if there is an organized effort to get support at the June 7th meeting. Fliers and such.

  12. I wrote a letter to Doug yesterday - don't know if it meant much since I am a Texan, not a Pennsylvanian anymore. But I hope it did help a little!

  13. Amy,

I found out about your project (and your blog) from a RT on Twitter. After reading Ginny's post over at That's Church, I was compelled to write Councilman Shields. I might have forgotten to include in my email that I live in TX, so I hope it does some good. :)

Glad to hear there's been movement already; I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

  14. There is so little that those of us who have been reading/watching/praying/supporting you can do. This is it...we're doing it!!! People can make a difference. God bless you.

  17. I saw the story in the Post Gazette concerning this and the online blitz that That's Church's blog stirred up! It's amazing what one blogger and a bunch of angry followers can do!

I hope and pray this all works out for you.

  18. WOW Amy - I'm glad to hear of all this support. I love your attitude about this and I imagine that even those opposing the treehouse, for whatever odd reason, will respect and value your approach. I also like the statement by the parks conservancy. I will help out in anyway!!!
