...about writing research papers:
I do feel like I'm turning into quite the whiner, but I'm gonna whine anyway.
I have a six page (minimum) research paper due tomorrow. I have to write about the narrow topics of coffee, tea and water and their importance in the food industry. How do I even attempt to do that in six pages?!! I could write six hundred pages on coffee alone and how important it is in my life and in the lives of all of my loved ones and, hell, in the lives of all of the people of the world, but who has time for that? So six pages it is.
I didn't realize when I started culinary school that I'd have to write papers. I did enough of that in college and grad school, thank you very much. I'm sure somehow it's good for me and I should just shut up and write already, but I wanted to share my frustration and angst with all of you.
AND I am the queen of all procrastinators - if there is a way to procrastinate, I will find it. Now I have a new one: blogging!
On that note I'm going to attempt to write a few more paragraphs before my next scheduled procrastination interlude. Thanks for listening, I feel better now.

THANKS.
Writing papers at our age is just insane. I'd much rather cook and eat.
ReplyDeleteI love the pic of Kate! I feel like that most every day!
ReplyDeleteI am with you about papers, and my degree is in secondary English ed. One of the reasons why I am considering getting a degree in elementary ed is because I don't want to read those papers either. But the mere thought of having to write long papers to actually get this degree is a big part of what is keeping me from doing this!
ReplyDeleteGood luck. And yeah coffee!
What a perfect way to end my day - reading your blog. Today would have been my mother's 100th birthday and she would have loved it too! She never procrastinated but she had to live with me and I was the queen of putter-offers! All the way thru high school and college; and the research papers stood in the way of an MBA.
ReplyDeleteIn fact the windows that I started cleaning in spring of 2009 are still dirty. However had I cleaned them in 2009 they would again be dirty today. So what's the point? I have had fun in the interim.
I echo Kate's sentiments exactly!
Keep the stories coming, Amy, you brighten a lot of lives. Just passed my daughter's 5th anniversary and I am to the point where the funny stories and memories outweigh the grief.
I will continue to pray for you and your healing - and your research papers every day.

Consider the blogging warm up for the actual writing of the paper.... seems a valid excuse to me ;-).
ReplyDeleteI'm going for my Bachelors in Psychology at an Online University (Ashford University), and the class I'm doing now (Social Psych) has a 4-6 page paper due every week and then a 12 page paper due at the end of the class (5 week long class). I will be remembering this picture of Kate as I'm working on each paper!
ReplyDeleteI'm still waiting on the results of my last paper (min 12 pages) that was due this past Monday at midnight... I started it Monday morning. :P
GOOD LUCK!
